BYU-I Wedding Show- Trend meets Tradition

I was one of the Co-Chairs in charge of the 2010 Flower Show. It was such an amazing experience to plan for a couple months and then to see it all come together. This was a group project I helped with for the show. I designed the initial structure and then we had the welding department create it. There was a mirror image of this on the other side that made a nice archway.
Since I was "in charge" I didn't have the opportunity to design much, when I discovered a place in need of an arrangement I took the opportunity and made this...

This was my interpretive piece. I interpreted the painting "An Act of Compassion" by Don Stivers. If you look closely you can see three circles created by the twigs, these represent two men and a canteen.

Every year in the program brings a new challenge for bouquet design. This year my challenge was to make a structure. I made this structure by stringing crochet thread, that had been soaked in sugar water, on a balloon. Each flower was then inserted through the bottom to make the bouquet. It was made of beautiful hot pink garden roses, plum hyacinth, and deep purple sweet peas. It smelled amazing.
This was the whole group that participated.
Romney is be best professor ever! He did so much to help us get the show running, so we got him a tie in each of the 6 color trends that we represented during the show.

Advanced Design Presentation

I had to give an oral presentation in my Advanced Design class and bid a proposal for an upcoming event in a professional organization. I chose to present to the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics. I found some fun-looking vintage books and created a Garden feel buffet piece with red rose, blue eryngium, blue Irises, and purple tulips. I also designed a corsage, boutonniere, entrance piece, and centerpieces.

Elaine Trail Wedding

We did a big wedding in May, the family had experienced a near tragedy in which the father nearly died and all the wedding money was used to pay for the medical bills. A year later, many businesses worked to help make their dream wedding happen. We did the whole wedding for only the cost of flowers. See more of her story here.

Floating Centerpiece

My friend Bethany showed me how to make flowers look like floating lilies. I added my own little touch with the tulips.

Flower Show Centerpiece

The theme of this years flower show was "Gathering with a Melody in your Heart". Every room was assigned a genre of music and had to create a celebration around it. My room was a swing music new year's party. This is the centerpiece I created for the tables. It had hydrangea, roses and carnations in the top, and floating tulips in the glass.

Artificial Arrangements

I made these arrangements for my Mom. I made the one in the basket a few years ago with the help of a youth leader. The one on the pedestal was the final project for my Introduction to Floral Design Class.
