Florabundance and Growers in Carpinteria

The advanced girls in the Floral program took a field trip to Southern California to see where our flowers come from. We visited Florabundance a company that specializes in custom wrapping flowers. Instead of ordering a whole box of one flower, one can order through Florabundance and get only what they wanted in a box. Contact at www.florabundance.com

Then we visited Pacific Bouquets Inc. This company makes and ships european style Hand-tied bouquets. www.pacificbouquets.com

Myriad Flowers specializes in Hydroponically grown roses. They also have special Sweetheart roses. Their main competition comes from South America. Roses from South America usually have very large heads and blossoms, but sweetheart roses are small which makes them better suited for corsages and small design work. www.myriadflowers.com

Flower Show Centerpiece

The theme of this years flower show was "Gathering with a Melody in your Heart". Every room was assigned a genre of music and had to create a celebration around it. My room was a swing music new year's party. This is the centerpiece I created for the tables. It had hydrangea, roses and carnations in the top, and floating tulips in the glass.

2008 Flower Show Bouquet

This was my very first bouquet in a holder. I love the bright colors and the wire. It has pink and orange roses, dendrobium orchids, statice, ruscus, Bells of Ireland, and Salal leaves in it.

Flower Show Bouquet

This is the bouquet I made for the BYU-I spring flower show. I was grouped with two other girls and we all had the same flowers. The challenge was to make 3 completely different bouquets. This is how mine turned out.

Dutch Spiral Hand-Tied Bouquet

I make most of my hand-tied bouquets using the Dutch Spiral technique.  All of the flower are placed together at the same angle, and the stems create a spiral.  When the technique is executed properly, and the stems are cut at the same length, the flowers are able to stand on their own.
